Dr. Victor Bruce MD has gone through extensive medical education and training both in his home country of Ghana and abroad.
From a young age, Victor has always been fascinated by science. At 11 years old his mother bought him his first chemistry set for his birthday, and he was enthralled by the various experiments he could perform. His fascination with science never left him, and he went on to study biochemistry in university.
Education
Victor was born in Ghana’s capital city, Accra, and completed his basic education from elementary to medical school in his home country. At the University of Ghana, he graduated at the top of his class. This allowed him to receive a full scholarship to go to the University of London to complete his Bachelor’s in Biochemistry in 1987. With his new degree in hand, he returned to the University of Ghana Medical School, where he graduated as an MD in June 1991.
Training and Volunteer Work
Victor’s education didn’t stop after medical school. Throughout his life, he has continually gone through training programs and offered his skills to volunteer projects.
Korle Bu Teaching Hospital
After completing his education at the University of Ghana, Victor went to the Korlebu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana to partake in an internship. While there, he did rotations through various departments, including internal medicine, orthopedics, pediatrics, general surgery, and urology. Through this experience, he was able to obtain a wide range of medical experience.
George Washington University Hospital
Once he and his family moved to the United States, he volunteered at the research lab for Physiology and Experimental Medicine at George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC. While he was there, he conducted lab-based research involving the use of various benchwork techniques.
Beth Israel/Mount Sinai Hospital
After his work at George Washington University, Victor was admitted into a 4 year internship and residency program in the combined Internal Medicine & Pediatrics at the Beth Israel/ Mount Sinai Hospital system in Newark, New Jersey in 1994.
During the final year of his training program, he was selected to be the Chief Resident. In this role, he taught and assisted students, new interns, and junior residents. Victor loved being able to teach and inspire these students on their path to a successful career in medicine.
